Brazilian team stands out in the US in global energy efficiency competition

The Shell Eco-marathon is an energy research competition that challenges students to design and build prototypes that travel the greatest distance using the least amount of energy.

The initiative began in 1939, when company employees in the United States competed to see who could travel the greatest distance possible with the same amount of energy. In 1985, the competition became official. Since then, the activity has expanded to two other continents, Asia and Europe, including categories in different types of fuel.

The Pato a Jato team, from the Federal Technological University of Paraná (UTFP), Pato Branco campus (PR), participated from April 3 to 6 in the Shell Eco-Marathon Americas 2019, in Sonoma, United States, winning the title of champion in the design category of the competition.

The team used an eco-friendly plant-based resin and biodegradable material made with a 3D printer, and painted the car yellow, which reflects light better than dark colors, reducing the vehicle's internal temperature. The team also received honorable mentions in the Safety and Communication categories.

In addition to the students, the team had the support and company of Professor Luiz Carlos Martinelli Junior. Teamwork combined with institutional support results in encouraged academics and international recognition.

INJEPRO believes in the transformative potential of knowledge, which is why it sponsors the Pato a Jato Team.
